Not suitable for long stays. Too bad there's no kettle.
Hotel Hegra exceeded our expectations. I was a little nervous that it would be noisy right on the canal, but it wasn't at all, all we heard were the doves that lived outside our window. The location was absolutely ideal for exploring the city, and we purposely selected an old canal house vs. a modern/traditional hotel so we knew the rooms would be small. Be aware that the stairs are VERY narrow and steep, and there is no elevator, as it says in the description. I personally liked climbing them, it added to the charm and was good exercise, but made sure I held the handrail coming down. The owner recommended a restaurant 5 minutes away which was fantastic, I can't recall the name but he had a business card for it. The owner and the young man who works for him were both very nice, helping us with our bags all the way up to the top floor and providing ice for my daughter's sore shoulder. Our room was a tight fit which we expected, and the recently redone bathroom could only really fit one person at a time, but the shower was hot and reliable and we had no complaints about it at all. Breakfast was simple but delicious. I highly recommend this property if you want an authentic experience in Amsterdam in the perfect location.
Only thing I can think of as a "con" is that it would have been nice to have more varieties of fruit at breakfast.
Perfect location on a beautiful canal and right in the center. Clean. The staircase is quite an adventure. ))
The twin room is extremely small - not really enough palce for 2 people and luggage, thought i guess it's a kind of norm for Amsterdam. It did not make much sense to pay for the room with a shower, cs the shower appeared to be right in the room, just behind a semi-transparent curtain, so we actually used a shared one, which at least had a door..
Small but nice hotel near by centre of Amsterdam. Very calm neighbourhood. Sufficient food choices at brakfast and nice hotel service.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Location was perfect, walking distance to many attractions and public transport. Free wifi. We enjoyed our stay.
Steep narrow stairs could be a problem for some travellers, but staff were willing to take bags up for guests. Parking is available, but expensive,30euro for 1day and 20 per day after that. But is a standard price for Amsterdam hotel parking service, much cheaper than on the street!
The owner was so nice and very helpful! Great breakfast and some of the best coffee I've ever had! We stayed on the top floor and he even had our luggage brought to the room so we didn't have to carry it up the stairs!
Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Location was excellent.
Fortunately I was alone. The double room sleeping accommodation was not big enough for two people.
3 singles beds in 10 m2
The hotel is situated in a very nice part of Amsterdam. Breakfast is included in the price and is typically dutch and very nice. Staff are very friendly and let us leave our bags on last day whilst we took the opportunity to have a final wander around the city.
We had a room on the third floor and it was very difficult to get up the extremely steep and narrow staircase with luggage. The higher you went the narrower they became. Not good for older customers. Help was offerd though. The room was very basic and was far too expensive for the facilities offrered. There was no toilet which meant sharing a very, very small cubicle toilet on the staircase landing. The shower was ok but would probably fail health & safety standards because of a very dodgy looking light and wiring "inside" the cubicle. No TV in room. No coffee/tea making facilities. The room was at the back of the hotel and the view was of a backdrop of staircases of other hotels and buildings. Nothing at all of any canals. I know this is in Amsterdam but that does not mean customers should be ridiculously overcharged.
The hotel is located in one of the prettiest parts of the city, within easy waking distance to just about everything. It is an authentic canal house, very narrow and picturesque.
We were on the fifth floor, and the stairs were so narrow and steep, it was difficult to carry our luggage. It would not be suitable for a person with difficulties getting around. There were no services in the room, no phone, TV, mirror or toilet.
The location of the hotel is very good as it is situated at one of the major canalS, in the old part of the city. The building is from the 17th century, which adds also to the experience.
The facilities are quite poor; there is no elevator and the toilets are outside rooms. The showers represent a low standard and their construction contributes to the humidity in the room. The rooms are very small as well. All in all, the traveller will experience 16th century comfort.
Convenient location and the morning breakfast
All rooms require many steps, and the rooms on the third and upper floors required very steep stairs. This hotel is a real canal house and the customers should be made aware that stairs are steep and many.
Staff was very kindly , very nice and clean room , very good breakfast and perfect location . So all in all 5 stars out of 5 !
Location; this is an original old building;
